| County completing zoning puzzle
A single-family residential area for seniors mixed in with a multifamily housing area for the college-aged.A nightclub next to a church.An exotic animal owner moves into a residential neighborhood.These are just some of the real and potential scenarios Orangeburg County officials contend with and may have to contend with into the future if something is not done to ensure orderly development standards, Orangeburg County planning and administration officials warn.And so the county is ready to implement its first countywide zoning ordinance for all unincorporated areas to help address and prevent ''helter skelter'' planning."With all the interest in development activity in the county, it is important for us to make that happen in a planned way and not a random way and to anticipate situations before they become conflicts," Orangeburg County Administrator Bill Clark said.And preventing potential neighbor conflicts is what Orangeburg County Planning Commission chairman Jim Albergotti says will make for a happier, more peaceful, livable county"In the long range, this is about the quality of life for those of us that have children down the road," Albergotti said.
Wilton board to review business plans
WILTON - New and expanding businesses are on the agenda when the Planning Board meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at the town office.
A new modular and mobile home sales lot is being proposed by Dale Leighton and Marty Pike from Farmington. The lot, to be located at 409 Route 2 East across from the Big Apple, is at the site where a mobile home sales lot was located a few years ago.
The new business, Sandy River Homes, will offer KBS Modular Homes from Paris, said Pike, and mobile homes by a new company, Eagle River.
The business hopes to be open by the first of June, Pike said. One part-time position in sales is expected, he said. The company will work with local contractors for setting up the homes.
Using a modular home for an office as part of the five display sites, the proposal also includes space for displaying three 28- by 40-foot modular homes and one 16- by 72-foot home.
Fleetwood Homes to Supply Modular Housing to the US Army
The Fleetwood Homes division of Fleetwood Enterprises, Inc, an industry leader in factory-built housing for more than five decades, today announced that its Trendsetter Homes unit has been chosen as a supplier to provide modular military housing to the U.S. Army at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas. Terms of the multi-million dollar contract were not disclosed.
Trendsetter Homes, Fleetwood's modular division, has begun offsite construction of permanent barracks at its modular housing facility in Texas. During the first phase of the contract, Trendsetter Homes will build seven modular apartment buildings totaling 470 units, which will house 940 Army personnel. The Company anticipates that this initial phase will enable full-time operation of its Belton, Texas, plant for at least seven consecutive months.
