Interior Devine

The prints range from the rare to the common all of which came out of my gallery inventory, Interior Devine. The single gold frame in the room holds the first print from the Curtis Botanical Magazine. The final touch of wood comes from contemporary photographer, Matthew Betcher. Glass panel photographs of trees were used as door panels housing more books and treasures. Free range cow-hide leather was used to upholster vintage club chairs. The furniture and artwork is an eclectic collection dating as early as the 17th century yet feels comfortable in this contemporary retreat and invites gusts to imagine themselves drinking a glass of champagne or a single malt Scotch as they listen to music.

The evolution of Devines career as an accomplished interior designer is replete with anecdotes hes enthusiastic to share.

Fleetwood lands Army barracks contract

Fleetwood Enterprises Inc. said Wednesday its fledgling modular homes division has landed a multimillion contract to supply barracks for the U.S. Army.

The Riverside-based manufacturer will construct seven apartment buildings totaling 470 units in its Belton, Texas, plant. The barracks will house 940 Army personnel at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas. The terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

While the work will keep Fleetwood employees busy for seven months, the company plans to bid on upcoming phases of the project as well as similar barracks development around the country, said Kathy Munson, director of investor relations.

This is the largest modular contract Fleetwood has ever received.

Fleetwood has dabbled in modular construction since 2005, but it hadn't focused on it until this year when the company created Trendsetter Homes, Munson said.

Manteca’s $750K ‘affordable’ homes

They are smaller, detached homes often 600 square feet or less that have access from the alleys. Rents range from $350 to $600 a month.

The California Legislature six years ago realized that such homes were an undeveloped source of affordable housing especially since local jurisdictions had essentially outlawed them since the 1960's.

Lawmakers put in place laws that prevented cities from discriminating against granny flats as long as zoning laws were met. In Manteca, that basically means overall coverage of a resident lot by all buildings including overhangs can't exceed 40 percent.

What happened, though, in many cities including Manteca was the creation of "stealth" granny flats built under the same roof. A number of so-called "McMansions" — homes in excess of 4,000 square feet built by Seeno Homes in Heritage Ranch near Cowell School in East Manteca — have super-sized secondary master suites on the second floor.

Grieving the life a tornado took

Noelia Puga, 3, wipes tears from the face of her father, Gustavo, during services Wednesday for her mother, Rosemary Rosales Puga, in the town of Holly. About 600 people attended the services. "She always welcomed me with open arms," Shaina Garcia said of her cousin. (Post / RJ Sangosti) .
